HISTORY OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS
Through the years, many users of the Encyclopedia of Connectors have asked us about the history of various connector companies and their products. In searching for the answers to their questions, we soon realized that there was no single source for this information. Much of this historical data has never been recorded. Some can be found in manufacturer's literature and web sites. A great deal more can only be learned through conversations with the "veterans" of the industry.
Our goal in establishing a website is to create a source of historical information relative to the connector industry which will be available at no charge to all interested parties.  The key elements of this website are as shown in the following paragraphs.

COMPANIES
This section is formatted as follows:
  • 1. Names of Companies - Either formerly or currently in business.  When the name is clicked on, the historical background of the company is displayed.
  • 2. Company History - When founded, their founders, principals and how the company was affected by mergers, acquisitions, sale and whether or not they are still in business.
  • Connector companies are located throughout the world and we have placed them in the following geographic areas:
Area 1 - North, Central, and South America
    Area 2 - Europe
    Area 3 - Asia, Australia
Our initial focus is on companies located in Area 1.

    PEOPLE
A brief biography of people who have been in the connector industry for at least 20 years. Photographs will be shown if available.

    PRODUCT HISTORY
This section is devoted to the origin and evolution of various connector types and configurations. Information will be gathered in the following sequence:

    1. Cylindrical
    2. Coaxial/RF
    3. Rectangular Rack & Panel
    4. D-Subminiature & Micro-D
    5. Card Edge (1 & 2 piece)
    6. Miscellaneous (header, IC sockets, terminal junctions, etc.)
    7. Wide-Usage Commercial (AMP & Molex types, etc.)

The information presented in this website is just the beginning of our effort. To make this project successful, we need your help. If we use your input, we will add your name to our List of Contributors shown on the website.
